Child Mental Health Initiative

In January 2002, Learning Together began the Child Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) to provide comprehensive services to children birth to six years of age who have demonstrated serious social, emotional, behavioral, and /or mental health concerns that have jeopardized their child care, family life, and future growth and development. CMHI offers individualized treatment and parent counseling.

These services can take place in the child's home, childcare centers, or within the child's school classroom. Home-based therapy promotes parent training in Floor Time play therapy techniques and school-based therapy promotes social skills and frustration tolerance.

In addition, CMHI also offers BEST Buddiez playgroups for pre-school children to help them develop important social skills. BEST Buddiez offers a group module that emphasizes social relationships and prepares two to five year olds for transition into a childcare center or school. A collaborative parent workshop is simultaneously held with the children’s groups, providing psycho-educational material and peer support. Group therapy is offered throughout the Wake county area.
