Learning Together Announces Recipients of 2011 All Star Awards
(RALEIGH, N.C.) — Learning Together, a private nonprofit that meets the developmental, educational and health needs of children of all abilities, is proud to announce the winners of the first annual All Star Awards: Bob and Carol Wright, Cisco and the Junior League of Raleigh. The awards were created to recognize companies and individuals who have shown overwhelming support, dedication and commitment to Learning Together’s programs and services.
“We are proud to recognize their contributions to our services for children of all abilities,“ said Nell Barnes, Executive Director at Learning Together. “The unwavering dedication from these companies and individuals for our mission cannot be overstated and we are honored to have their support.”
The awards were distributed at Grateful Together, a donor-appreciation event on Sunday, November 13. In addition to receiving the awards, the names of the recipients will go on a plaque to be showcased at Learning Together’s headquarters in downtown Raleigh.
The Purple All Star, awarded to a deserving individual or couple who have supported the organization over the last several years, was presented to Bob and Carol Wright.
“We were honored to receive the award and please to support the important work of Learning Together,” said Bob Wright. “I was impressed with their great staff and work during my first visit as an IBM representative and my feelings haven’t changed some 20 years later.”
The Green All Star, awarded to an outstanding business or corporation who has supported Learning Together, was presented to Cisco. With a campus in the Research Triangle Park, Cisco designs and sells consumer electronics, networking, voice and communications technology and services. Cisco employees have served on Learning Together’s Board of Directors, participated in the largest volunteer day ever at Learning Together, and participated in various special events during the past decade.
Mike Brumbaugh, Global Account Manager at Cisco Systems stated that, “Cisco was honored to receive the Learning Together Green All Star Award for 2011. Our hope is that continued efforts of service and fundraising will make a difference in the children's lives that Learning Together impacts every day.”
The Blue All Star, awarded to a local faith, civic or community group who has shown their commitment and support to Learning together, was presented to the Junior League of Raleigh. The Junior League of Raleigh, Inc. is a member of an international organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League of Raleigh provided the grant in 1975 that allowed Learning Together to become incorporated.
“The Junior League of Raleigh values many years of partnership with Learning Together,” said Lisa Marie Ferrell, President of the Junior League of Raleigh. “We are honored to receive the first ever Blue Star Award and look forward to serving the community together for many years to come.”
Learning Together is deeply appreciative of all the support that these three honorees have provided over the last several years. It is with their support and so many others in the community that Learning Together is able to meet the developmental, educational, and health needs of young children of all abilities.
