To celebrate her 30th year at Learning Together, a dinner was held in Nell G. Barnes’s honor. At the dinner, Nell was surprised with the creation of the Nell G. Barnes Endowment Fund. This fund will help give Learning Together the stability it needs to continue its important work of serving North Carolina’s children for the next 30 years and beyond. It was announced with $25,000 raised and a goal of $100,000 by 2016. You can be a part of Nell’s legacy here at Learning Together by making a donation to this fund.
When Learning Together’s founding director, Julia Williams, hired her in 1983, Nell began the career that would define the rest of her life and allow her to touch the lives of countless others. In the 30 years that she has held the reins, Learning Together has moved from the campus of Dorothea Dix Hospital to the historic Crosby-Garfield Building on East Lenoir Street. It has doubled from serving approximately 85 children to over 170 children in the 2012-13 school year.
It has been the site for state and national announcements of programs like SmartStart because of its innovative and high standards for early childhood education and care. Learning Together has modified and adapted its programs to serve the changing needs of the Triangle community, but it has always maintained the focus on its mission, to ensure that children of all abilities achieve their full potential.
We are continually working to make Learning Together a place where all children of all abilities are valued and respected for their individual strengths. With your gift, young children of future generations will still be able to reach their full potential here.
Your gift will celebrate Nell’s legacy at Learning Together and help ensure that the children we serve will continue to receive the support they need for the next 30 years and more. Please consider making a difference in these children’s lives with your support.
