Director of Family Advocacy

Read Bio

My name is Mati Vassallo and will be serving as the new Director of Family Advocacy. I am so excited to start this new endeavor in my life as I believe that my 15 years of experience as an early childhood educator, will help me effectively serve the families and teachers at Learning Together. I graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in child development. As a preschool teacher, I have worked with children ranging from six weeks to five years old, with most of my experience being with two-year-old students. I have also worked as a support group facilitator for families in domestic violence crisis situations, providing them emotional support, case management, and referrals and resources in the community. I am bringing many years of experience to this role, including experience advocating for children and their families, classroom management skills, case management, and working in crisis response. I work to maintain positive relationships with colleagues and families, and always maintain the privacy and confidential information of families. A little about me: I was born in Lima, Peru and speak Spanish fluently. I migrated to the US when I was seven years old and lived in Florida until 2012. I briefly lived in Virginia, and then I was given the wonderful opportunity to move to North Carolina. I have called NC home for 8 years. I have two children, my son, Angelo, and my daughter Anna. I live with my boyfriend, John, he  is from NY. We have been together for over 2 years. Family is very important to me, as I come from a very close-knit family. I am the second of five children, two boys and three girls. I love to cook and eat, read fiction and nonfiction, work out, and run . I started running five years ago and I love it! I am currently training for my first marathon.
